Hey, I was recalibrating my eyeballs!
Yes, it was a very challenging match. None of the targets were so far away as to be unhittable, but the positions you had to be in were diabolical. In the third picture down, Stage 6, Alan of the Brightly Colored Underoos is doing his best not to slide down the slippery slope we had to shoot from. In addition to this, the rifle had to be lying on it's side at a 90 degree angle. This is hard enough on a smooth flat surface. Alan and Pat had practiced this twice last week and still couldn't hit the targets, which were 300 and 400 yards out. Even though Alan pounded out a very respectable 300-yard group from this position Thursday. Pat won overall, and got a new Benchmark barrel. I'm jealous. Impact Data Books donated some full-size and mini data books, and fourth place was good enough to get me one of the minis. I'm going to use it for the .300 WinMag I decided to build today after watching Pat use half the elevation and windage I was with my .308. (That may have been because I shot the first six stages with an extra turn of left windage, so I was ten minutes left of zero. But still, I want a .300 now) Tough match, good crowd; thanks to BigWheels and the RSOs who put it on, and thanks to Benchmark and Impact for their support. 1911fan

Thanks guys. You are most welcome. Here's the results of the match.
1st place was Pat M 2nd place was JCVibby 3rd place was May Day 4th place was 1911Fan. Good shooting everyone. I did some shooting today @ the #8, & #9 stages . Wind was even worse than yesterday, but was able to make a few hits on all the targets.(love that 300WM) I'll get some pics up, & possibly a vid, Joe & I did this morning , as soon as I'm able. Also a big thanks to the RSO'S, & my friend Ed who were instramental in set up, & operation of the match. Also thanks to Benchmark Barrels, & Impact Data Books for sponsoring the prizes. Hope to see you all again when I do BSC III. I don't know about diabolical... But I didn't want it to be easy. Next one will be easier, I promise. Last edited by Bigwheels; 08-29-2010 at 08:06 PM. |

I know. I admit some positions were possibly approaching diabolical. I was actually looking for about a 50% hit ratio for the winner, but Pat M scored a 218 out of a possible 475. So it was a little harder than I'd hoped. I think next time I'm going to go after a 60% hit ratio. Maybe the wind will cooperate next time too.

Thanks for posting the pics. I was hoping someone had some from stage 9. Just curious, but how much did you need to dial to get to 1300 yds? I needed 38 moa, & anywhere from 5-8 moa windage on sun. to hit that silohette with my 300WM. Wind was blowing a little harder than it was on sat.

IIRC, I had a little over 60 minutes elevation, but not much wind so only about the same windage..... My .308 has a trajectory more like a set of car keys than a bullet at that range. I hit it three out of four, RO may have missed one but Pat & Alan called it a hit.
Ask Pat what he had on his .300WM. 1911fan
